Let's get Sirius - it's a Leo New Moon

For some odd reason (which in my sphere is not odd at all), the importance of the Leo season has been somewhat brought to my attention in a number of ways. Walking past a jewellery shop, there was a display of 'the age of Leo' range of rings and more. Switch on the TV, and the Lionesses chase a ball. That and other small but significant signs. And I'm a Leo native.

It's Leo season. The month of July brings with it what is known as the 'dog days' - the intense heat associated with the 'dog star' Sirius, whose heliacal rising occurs this year on the 29th July (but I bet you can feel the fire too - temperatures here in the Med are crazy hot).

Sopdet

This fixed star, known as Sopdet to the ancient Egyptians, was a celestial herald of renewal, appearing just before sunrise at the time of the flooding of the River Nile. In this respect Sirius - associated with the goddess Isis, signified a life-giving event that marked the beginning of the new year. This flood deposited fertile silt onto the lad, essential for agriculture, and was thus a promise of prosperity, and was part and parcel of the way this civilisation viewed astronomy as woven into the fabric of mythology expressed in daily life.

So let's get 'sirius'  have a look at the story the sky is offering us at this New Moon in Leo on the 24th July.

The diagram above is a visual of the connections between the planets formed by angles they make to each other. Almost all the planets are aligned in one way of another, though Jupiter and Mercury are not tied into this narrative in an obvious way.

The most prominent aspect is the Sun/Moon in Leo opposite Pluto in Aquarius, with a sextile (60 degree angle) from Uranus in Gemini which feeds into this aspect. New Moons are always about the beginning of a lunar cycle, which, in Leo, is all about personal creativity. Leo also represents kingship, or in more personal terms, being the 'king' in a personal sense. Pluto's opposition challenges you to let go of trying to be the king of your realm. Leo is about being in command; Pluto is about letting go of control. This new moon is going to test our ability to be flexible and align yourself with all that's coming in.

To that, add Uranus' sextile - the unusual, the 'all of a sudden' element - something unexpected will be thrown in the works.

Now add the Saturn/Neptune dynamic which was explained in the previous post to the Sun/Pluto aspect. Saturn solidifies, Neptune dissolves, so apart from letting to and letting the unexpected in, we also have the solidification of something ethereal, or flipping that idea, the dissolution of something set in stone, be it a boundary or a norm you previously held to be true.

Mars is also conjunct the lunar South Node. The moon's nodes are mathematical points (i.e. it represents where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic) and Mars conjunct the south node informs us of something that comes up from the past, some 'karma' (south node) which needs addressing. Mars is square Venus, both in signs ruled over by Mercury - which happens to be retrograde, so it looks like a 'war of words' over something that happened some time ago.

This certainly is not the easiest of new moons to set intentions to. But that's the whole point - our point of reference is being reset, by the looks of things. It appears that at times, life throws stuff at us to test our endurance and things we are not always able to control events. Now is the time to listen within and see what needs changing as what we once knew no longer holds. Inner guidance is advised. The tarot card 'Strength' shows a figure in white with a lion. It is through endurance and inner guidance that the figure conquers his/her animal nature. Perhaps this month we are being asked to let go of past grievances and realise that we are king of our own inner realms.

I hope you enjoyed reading this.

(Will the Lionesses win the trophy, do you think?)

Blessings,

Cindy
