New Moon in Virgo and the Heart of the Lion
Good morning y'all! Let's all bid welcome to the Virgo New Moon. New Moons are a time when we set our intentions for this lunar cycle, so be sure to have a think about what it is you want to manifest.
We have just left the zodiac sign of Leo, a time when the emphasis was on creativity and finding your inner king. But like all kings, they need their subjects who recognise them as king. The keyword here is recognition and therefore, in other words, the essence of Leo is about knowing who you are, what you're about and what you stand for. It is the myth of Parsifal.
After completing the journey through Leo, when we go in search of ourself, we move into the next sign, Virgo, where, knowing who we are and all that, we separate the wheat from the chaff; we evaluate and sift through our experiences. That is why Mercury rules this sign; this Mercury (as opposed to the curious, information-chasing Merc we associate with Gemini) has a more discriminating and discerning nature which we use to refine our Leo lessons. Virgo month, therefore, is all about letting go of things and 'things' that no longer serve you.
There are few interesting aspects this month and, make no mistake, this New Moon is powerful! Firstly, this Virgo Moon squares Uranus, which could presage sudden change, something happening unexpectedly. Last month, Uranus aspected both Mars and Pluto (did you hold your breath?). Now that Mars has moved on, Uranus still aspects Pluto, which again, is all about change. This alone indicates that there is a sense of the Cosmos telling us that things will change due to unexpected events. Then we have the YOD, a formation formed by Pluto and Saturn/Neptune forming a 150 degree aspect to the Virgo New Moon. A yod is a formation made by three points in a chart; two of the points (Pluto and the conjunct Saturn and Neptune) are 60 degrees apart and form a 150 degree aspect to the third (the New Moon). There is a sense of fatedness which accompanies this aspect. Most importantly, what the chart is showing us is an incredible mounting pressure (Saturn/Neptune and Pluto) to do begin afresh, to take action. Mercury and Mars add fuel to this aspect.
Another interesting point worth mentioning is the aspect the New Moon makes to the Fixed Star Regulus, the heart of the Lion. The position of Regulus, Cor Leonis, is traditionally set at 28 degrees of Leo. However, with precession, its position is now at 1 degree of Virgo, meaning that this New Moon is conjunct Regulus. It is the brightest star in Leo and one of the brightest stars in the night sky. In times of old, Regulus was considered to be a 'royal star' and was associated with kings and kings were expected to provide for their subjects in every aspect. They had to rule wisely and grow their kingdom's riches as well as ensuring peace: 'Do the right thing and the crown is yours', the old priests of Babylon would advise. Power for power's sake is not kingly. Regulus protects the king as long as he acts with kingly virtues, for the nemesis of Regulus is revenge; partake of that and he loses his crown either through self-destruction or otherwise.
