A New Moon in Leo on the 8th August at 15:50 offers us the opportunity to put in an intention to be more creative – that is what Leo is about, after all – opening up the heart to new possibilities. The overall feel is one of positivity and the ability to imagine wonderful scenarios – a gateway, if you will. Gateways are always interesting as they offer us mortals the opportunity to envision something new. To the Ancient Egyptians, the moment the dog star Sirius rose with the Sun (heliacal rising) meant that the New Year commenced. Sirius is associated with Leo (although it is a star in the constellation Canis Major) as it always rose in the ‘hot days’ when the Nile flooded, bringing with it the promise of renewal. To the ancient Egyptians, this event was met with much trepidation as they would understand that the year ahead was guaranteed crops.

Two important backdrops to be noted for this New Moon is the Lions Gate Portal and the ongoing Saturn/Uranus dance. The 8:8 (8th of the 8th month, August) is known as the Lions Gate and although this is not an astronomical event, it has some bearing in mystical/New Age circles. This is thought by some to be a gateway, and like all gateways, they lead to something bigger, different and hopefully better. This year’s Lions Gate Portal coincides with the New Moon in Leo and promises to be a unique opportunity for us all to create something we have always dreamed about but perhaps have held back on.

Meanwhile, Saturn and Uranus continue their heavenly dance in what is known in astrology as a ‘square’ (a 90° aspect is seen as a challenging aspect). These are the two ‘heavies’ in the sky; one demands restriction (Saturn), responsibility and organisation, whilst Uranus is all about freedom, ideas and innovation. All this appears to resonate with what is going on here on this terrestrial plane. Just read the headlines on the daily newspapers. You might even feel this is a pattern in your own personal journey. What we need is hope and this is what this New Moon appears to be offering us.

  Tomorrow's Full Moon is a lunar eclipse, heralding the eclipse season for 2024. New Moon in Leo.... and more (read on).

  Are you feeling the heat? Astrologically, a new moon is all about implementing new plans, bringing others to a close and setting new intentions. Although this is stated in each of the blog posts, they are not the same for each new moon in a year. A new moon in Cancer is not the same as a new moon in Pisces, though theoretically they are both water signs. Solar Eclipse and its links to 1501....

  And here it is... the chart for the New Moon in Aries, also a total solar eclipse. I've been reading a lot of different takes on this eclipse. Let me explain why there are different views on it.  Fact number one: different astrologers will have different takes on it depending on what they see in the chart. That is why astrology is not only a science, but also an art. This is why I suggest reading a variety of interpretations of astrological perspectives on this eclipse (or any other, for that matter) and see what you can take from it.  Fact number two: eclipses do not affect everyone in the same way.
