New Moon in Libra
In case you
were wondering why I chose the title ‘Living with the stars’ for my blog, it is
because it is just that: we live our daily lives going about our business,
feeling disconnected much of the time, trying to make sense of it all. Once the
stars are brought into things, little lights come on, connections are made. Before
the Age of Enlightenment, our forefathers looked at the sky to make sense of
what was happening on terra firma. They held the belief that there was a
connection – as above, so below. Astrologers affirm this connection. Life is just that little bit more interesting when connections are made. Onto this months lunation chart....
There is a
New Moon on the 6th October, at 13°24’ of Libra. If
you look closely at the chart,
the glyphs of the Sun and the Moon are at the top of the chart, meaning that
this new moon will occur when the Sun is high in the sky (daytime). Next to the
Sun and Moon is the planet Mars, also at 13°, This is a very close conjunction
and the technical word for that is ‘partile’, that is, within one degree. So let’s
unpack that.
At any new moon, the position of Sun and Moon are in
the same space/ degree. Not only that, but they are also in a straight line,
with the moon between the Earth and the Sun, with the illuminated part of the moon
facing away from us. We only ever get to see the illuminated (by the sun) side
of the moon. During the lunar cycle, the new moon phase is when the dark side
faces Earth.
New Moon in Libra means that this lunar phase is happening against the backdrop of the constellation of Libra. Libra is represented by the scales, indicating balance. People born between the 23rd September and the 22nd October will typically have their natal Sun in the zodiac sign of Libra. Librans are known for their love of aesthetic beauty and their ability to create or seek harmony as an integral part of their daily lives. Their ability to be diplomatic and seek justice is aided by their natural charm. Of course, finding balance sometimes means that they are sometimes indecisive…. Which brings us to the position of Mars in this New Moon Chart.
The planet Mars represents warrior energy, or what gets you up and out of bed in the morning. If you’d like to know what motivates you, look at where Mars is in your own birth chart. It also represents our will and how we assert ourselves. The name comes to us from Roman mythology, where he was known not only for his position as the god of war, but also agriculture, as Julian Venables, a UK based astrologer, pointed out during one particularly interesting online webinar.
Mars works very well in some zodiac signs and not so well in a few others. Remember, Mars likes to act, to move forward, so finding itself in the sign of the balance is really not his ‘thing’. Seeing this aspect in a new moon chart could be telling us that this ‘vibe’ may last for the whole new moon cycle, that is, until the 4th November. So, not surprisingly, Mars’ inability to take decisive action could lead to unnecessary levels of frustration. However, not all is lost; remember that Mars in this position could also allow us to be open to the idea of maintaining balance.
If you read my last post, you might remember that I highlighted the importance of Venus in Malta’s national chart, and that 13° Leo position. Interestingly, that degree is echoed in this New Moon chart with the Sun and Moon at 13° Libra. Libra is ruled by Venus, so looking at the position of Venus in the New Moon chart, one can see that it is found towards the end off Scorpio, that intense and passionate sign. We already know that maintaining harmony might be a little frustrating this month (energy of the New Moon), and now we can add the element of deep Venusian passion (hatred or love, you choose). Passions can run high this lunar month, so do use your Mars energy to maintain some level of harmony through diplomatic solutions. Blessings to you all!
