Full Moon with Algol 19th November 2021

If there is a Full Moon that is interesting any astrologer this year, it is this one. Why? Because it is also a lunar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse occur when the Sun obscures the Moon, as opposed to a solar eclipse, when it is the Moon that hides the Sun.

All astrologers’ eyes are on this eclipse this year. That, and the solar eclipse that follows fourteen days later. Much has been said about the effects of this pair of eclipses (they usually come in twos) on the world stage.

When looking for clues as to how this may be played out, we must make the distinction between a solar and a lunar eclipse. Solar eclipses are usually seen as the more powerful, whereas the data on lunar eclipses are seen to bear some weight in other instances.

What is most interesting is that in the chart of the lunar eclipse, the Moon’s position is conjunct (in line with/occupies the same portion of sky) as Algol (see my blog entry no.4).

Algol is tied in with the myth of Medusa, who was a temple priestess. However, after being raped by Poseidon, the goddess Pallas Athena cursed her for dishonouring the integrity of her sacred temple, and she became hideous. Keywords associated with Algol are revenge, passion and anger. Perseus famously protected himself with his shield so that he would not become petrified by looking directly at her. Interestingly, the word ‘petrified’, which means terrified, also means ‘to ossify’. Such was the rage and anger that Medusa carried within her that men would turn to stone. Such is the myth of Medusa.

The exact moment of the lunar eclipse is at 09:57 on the 19th November, which means that the Sun is up and the Moon cannot be seen, though it will rise later at sunset.

So how does this lunar eclipse affect you? Look for anything around 27° of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius in your chart. Is anything there? This is a very intense full moon, especially as Mars opposes Uranus  (think ‘boom!’). It is also an invitation to pay attention to your dreams – after all, this is a Scorpio Full Moon. Dreams have been very lucid over the past three days leading up to the Full Moon, and they all highlighted issues which have been part of what has held me back from holding my own personal power.

Also, over the past week, we have seen a few reports of bullying against women for speaking out. Women daring to step out of the shadows and bring things to light seems to tie in with this Algol energy; heads will roll.

So honour this Full Moon by paying attention to what lies in your shadow. Pay attention to your dreams and record them in a dream journal as them pretty much will point to what you have been keeping at the back of your metaphorical cupboard. You'll be surprised what you find there.
