It all happened on Christmas Day!

Thanks to a little book I got from a book fair, I came across a list of historical events which happened on Christmas Day. It has long been accepted that the day itself is probably not the date of Jesus Christ’s birth. The New Testament states that shepherds watched their flocks by night, something which would not have occurred on long winter nights, but rather on late spring nights, according to astrologer Christine Arens, who examined the possibility that the bright star in the East, mentioned in the New Testament and, according to Arens and others, was a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction (occupying the same ‘portion’ of sky). Point of note: Christmas was first celebrated on the 25th December in the year 336AD.

Celebrating the birth of a messianic king did leave its impact, however. Both Charlemagne and William the Conqueror were crowned kings on Christmas Day. The story of Charlemagne is one of a devout Christian and successful conqueror who was crowned by Pope Leo III in Rome, on the 25th December in the year 800 AD.

William’s coronation was markedly set for Christmas Day to establish his legitimacy to the English throne as sanctioned by God. He even made sure that he was crowned at midday, when the sun was conjunct the midheaven. Known as ‘William the Bastard’, his claim to the English throne is well documented. It was based on his assertion that, in 1051, Edward the Confessor had promised him the throne (he was a distant cousin) and that Harold II - having sworn in 1064 to uphold William's right to succeed to that throne - was therefore a usurper, hence the importance of establishing a ‘contact with the heavens’ to prove his birth right. The 1066 Coronation chart is frequently used as the chart for England, together with the 1801 Act of Union chart..but that’s a story for another day.

The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction mentioned above, also known as the Great Conjunction, occurs every twenty years, and is a cycle much noted by astrologers. The last conjunction happened last year and was exact on the 21st December (Winter Solstice) 2020. It is thought that Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions mark a turning in social and political history. This website explains this cycle in great detail: https://jessicadavidson.co.uk/2020/11/02/the-jupiter-saturn-cycle-and-the-great-mutation/

Anyone interested in American presidents and the Jupiter-Saturn cycle can read up about it here: https://star4cast.com/us-presidents-tecsumehs-curse-jupiter-saturn/ It is quite interesting, and of course, let us not forget that President Joe Biden was elected to office during a Great Conjunction year. Of course, these occurrences are noted because they involve people on the world stage. Us lesser mortals? We can just sit and watch.

From the Star of Bethlehem in 0007BC to us here in 2021, what wisdom can we gleam? Is it character or fate which makes us act? In ‘King Lear’, Shakespeare writes ‘It is the stars that govern our condition’.

What’s in the night sky at the moment? Jupiter and Saturn are still visible in the sky, as is Venus, though she is doing her moonwalk and will soon appear as a morning star. Mercury is also visible. Furthermore, Jupiter makes its entry into Pisces on Thursday 29th December. Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Pisces and is well-placed here. Anyone wishing to embark on an inner journey would be greatly assisted while Jupiter is in this sign.

Blessings,

Cindy
