Full Moon in Cancer

 

 


This is the chart for the Full Moon of the 18th January 2022. It occurs at 48 minutes past midnight – in Malta. This is a very particular Full Moon chart; both Mercury and Venus are doing their backwards walk (retrograde motion), Saturn and Uranus are disengaging from a challenging square aspect, and most notably, the Sun and Pluto are conjunct in Capricorn. This also means that the Moon opposes Pluto (because the Sun opposes the Moon, and the Sun and Pluto are within one degree of each other). This is going to be an intense time, especially because this Full Moon is a Cancer full moon. Cancer is the sign ruled by the moon, and in astrology, the Moon rules our emotions.

Mercury and Venus are called the personal planets. Mercury tells us a little bit about how we effect communication. This planet is symbolised by the god Hermes, who, if you recall, wears a hat with wings, and also has wings on his feet. It tells us how we think. When Mercury goes retrograde, it can symbolise that communication is directed inward rather than outward, and so astrologers will speak of letters getting lost, communication systems breaking down and so forth.

Venus tells us how we interact with each other. It also speaks of our values. Venus is, as has been described in previous posts, travelling through the underworld (she’s retrograde too) and this means that we should be busy assessing our relationship to ourselves and also others around us. What do we value? Is this still important to me?

Pluto opposite the Moon usually speaks of a power struggle whilst Uranus, the planet which has links with innovative ideas, revolution and eccentricity is ending its retrograde (remember, this word means that from the perspective or Earth, it appears to be moving in a backwards motion) motion and is stationary. This sort of gives it a very ‘static’ energy.

All in all, it’s going to feel as though we are going nowhere at one hundred miles an hour. It feels overwhelming, does it not?


Take the time to indulge in what you can ‘weed’ out of your life the things you no longer require. Light candles honouring whatever fuels your spirituality and entertain your curiosity about how you can make your life more enchanting. Do not forget that Mercury and Venus are urging us to be more reflective. There is a wealth of treasure in that.

  Tomorrow's Full Moon is a lunar eclipse, heralding the eclipse season for 2024. It occurs at 08:00 and will not be visible from our part of the world.  One thing to note is that due to precession, the zodiac and the constellations are out of synch by about 30 degrees, so whilst we say that the Moon is in the sign of Libra, the Moon will appear in the sky with Virgo as its backdrop. New Moon in Leo.... and more (read on).

  Are you feeling the heat? Astrologically, a new moon is all about implementing new plans, bringing others to a close and setting new intentions. Although this is stated in each of the blog posts, they are not the same for each new moon in a year. A new moon in Cancer is not the same as a new moon in Pisces, though theoretically they are both water signs. Solar Eclipse and its links to 1501....

  And here it is... the chart for the New Moon in Aries, also a total solar eclipse. I've been reading a lot of different takes on this eclipse. Let me explain why there are different views on it.  Fact number one: different astrologers will have different takes on it depending on what they see in the chart. That is why astrology is not only a science, but also an art. This is why I suggest reading a variety of interpretations of astrological perspectives on this eclipse (or any other, for that matter) and see what you can take from it.  Fact number two: eclipses do not affect everyone in the same way.
