Full Moon in Capricorn and The Gateway of the Gods

Apologies for this late entry - what I thought was going to be a long, lazy summer has been anything but. Here's my take on things, nevertheless. The Full Moon in Capricorn occurred yesterday evening at approximately 19:37 local time. The Sun is currently transiting the last decan of Cancer and therefore the Moon would be

directly opposite at 21 degrees of Capricorn.

Astrology deals with polarities, meaning that opposite signs lie across an axis, for example Leo/Aquarius, Aries/Libra and so forth. The Cancer/Capricorn axis has frequently been called 'The Gateway to the Gods', possibly because they were linked to the solstices. There is a lot of ancient literature concerning this subject which is quite fascinating. The Ancient Egyptians equated the zodiac sign of Cancer with souls descending to Earth because the Sun, at that time of the year, has the longest elevation in the sky, and therefore was seen as being closer to heaven. Conversely, during the winter solstice, during the sign of Capricorn, was seen as the time when souls would lose their earthly trappings and ascend to heaven, as it were.

There are a number of things going on in the Full Moon chart that we can 'unpack'. Firstly, the Sun at 21 degrees Cancer is conjunct the Fixed Star Castor, Pollux's twin. Here we have a repetition of the heaven/earth theme. Anyone who is into mythology will know that these heavenly twins were the sons of Leda, one fathered by Zeus himself - that's Pollux, and Castor, fathered by the mortal King Tyndareus of Sparta. You can read their story here: https://www.constellation-guide.com/constellation-list/gemini-constellation/

Also, the Moon at 21 degrees of Capricorn is very close to Pluto, the planet associated with death and regeneration; again, here, the theme is repeated. Add to this the fact that the Moon is out-of-bounds (which gives it a 'wild card' vibe) and you get the feeling that this Full Moon asks you to embrace the opportunity to renew yourself in some way.

Let's add Uranus conjunct the North Node. Uranus represents the unexpected, the eccentric and the unusual. This planet was discovered in the 1780s (1781 to be precise) and is associated with revolutions; think of the revolutions of 1776 and 1789. Today, the 14th July, is National Day in France, when the Bastille was stormed (to all my friends who were into this French musical - enjoy: https://youtu.be/-b2ZSalDlZM and go to 14:52. You're welcome). As Mars moves to conjoin Uranus and the North Node at the end of the month, this will apply heat and volatility (Mars) to an already electrifying situation (Uranus/NN).  Saturn squares Uranus too, which talks of unsettling structures or organisations. Well, there's enough happening in the world to apply that to!

On a personal level, there are many notables whose charts contain a Uranus conjunct the North Node (this is where the Moon crosses the ecliptic towards the northern hemisphere), me included. However, I'm not famous (nor do I wish to be). Donald Trump, Oscar Wild, George Oppenheimer, Heinrich Himmler, Lord Louis Mountbatten all belong to this club. All have something of the eccentric in their characters.

There you have it: a Full Moon which offers us the opportunity to do something differently - and it's a powerful moon too. Case in point: I'm currently nursing a bashed-up knee, so I've had to put everything that I considered important aside and just take care of myself.

I hope you enjoyed this article.

Blessings everyone.
