Full Moon in Cancer and Two Princes

 

Full Moon tonight! If you look to the east, you might be able to see the Moon against the background of the Gemini Twins, with Orion to the right. Astrologically, it is a Full Moon in Cancer (something called 'precession'). The picture on the left is courtesy of Stellarium, a feature of my computer software. For those of us who live in well-lit areas, the above sight is something that we only see if it is computer simulated. 

So what sky story is being told here? Well, if we take the story of the Gemini Twins, I think you'll agree with me that the story being played out in the media by the princes William and Harry has captured our attention.  From what I've read, Prince William allegedly called his brother by the name 'Harold' during a 'heated discussion', which made me recall the battle between William of Normandy and King Harold I in 1066, for the throne of England (another Will and Harry event). Interestingly, William Lilly, one of England's great astrologers, predicted The Great Fire of London in 1666, and connected the zodiac sign of Gemini with London. Mars is, at this moment, providing us with the illusion of moving backwards in the sign of Gemini, which infers 'inactive action', or rather, action which is incapacitated. Connections, connections, connections. 

















Another momentous event was yesterday's funeral in Rome: Pope Benedict was laid to rest. Who led the funeral? Another pope...Gemini brothers again. Gemini speaks of duality, two princes of the church, and indeed, these two beings were brothers of the cloth. 

Apart from princes and popes, what does this Full Moon mean for us mere mortals? Full Moons speak of things coming to fruition, so whatever your intentions were at the beginning of this lunar cycle, have a look at see if plans implemented are reaping some sort of fruit. Mercury is now retrograde (the illusion of moving backwards) so it seems that issues to do with communication (travel, paperwork, speech) could get a bit slow. However, Venus has just moved into Aquarius and trines Mars so Venus will help out with interaction with others.

For the next few days, take advantage of Uranus' abilities to be inspirational; be creative. The Sun is in the sign of Capricorn, an earth sign, and a good time to getting practical things done. Let's be the prince/ss in our own lives.

  Tomorrow's Full Moon is a lunar eclipse, heralding the eclipse season for 2024. It occurs at 08:00 and will not be visible from our part of the world.  One thing to note is that due to precession, the zodiac and the constellations are out of synch by about 30 degrees, so whilst we say that the Moon is in the sign of Libra, the Moon will appear in the sky with Virgo as its backdrop. New Moon in Leo.... and more (read on).

  Are you feeling the heat? Astrologically, a new moon is all about implementing new plans, bringing others to a close and setting new intentions. Although this is stated in each of the blog posts, they are not the same for each new moon in a year. A new moon in Cancer is not the same as a new moon in Pisces, though theoretically they are both water signs. Solar Eclipse and its links to 1501....

  And here it is... the chart for the New Moon in Aries, also a total solar eclipse. I've been reading a lot of different takes on this eclipse. Let me explain why there are different views on it.  Fact number one: different astrologers will have different takes on it depending on what they see in the chart. That is why astrology is not only a science, but also an art. This is why I suggest reading a variety of interpretations of astrological perspectives on this eclipse (or any other, for that matter) and see what you can take from it.  Fact number two: eclipses do not affect everyone in the same way.
