Malta and Saturn Returns

This is likely to be a short  blog post. Looking through some of my astro data yesterday I realised that Malta will shortly be celebrating its second Saturn return. Let me explain.

Countries also have birth charts. This is usually set for the time and date a country takes on an identity of sorts, say, like when a when a new king establishes a new beginning for a country. An example of this is when William of Normandy defeated King Harold I of England in 1066, and was crowned on Christmas Day of the same year. This is known as England's 1066 chart. Later on, when Great Britain and Ireland (Wales was already incorporated into England  ) were united were united by an act of parliament in 1801, that became the chart used by most astrologers.

Likewise, although Malta has a few charts which astrologers could work with, for example the 1528 chart (when the Knights took over the islands), and the 1921 chart (Malta's first parliament), most astrologers use the chart of Independent Malta, the 21st September 1964 chart. Any astrological research would use this chart as a 'base' chart. Why this chart and not the Republic Day chart? Well, technically the Republic chart can be used and certainly any astrologer worth their salt would compare and contrast all available charts when testing for transits and progressions (used for prediction work).

The Independence chart is the one widely used by astrologers. Let's look at it. One reason I favour this chart is because the Sun's position in Virgo seems to mirror the island's love of the female archetype. Being home to the world's oldest megalithic temples, the sign of Virgo is the sign of the maiden. Also, when comparing the charts of our present and past Prime Ministers against the Independence chart, no less than 8 of the post-Independence PMs had connections with the Independence chart. Interesting, right? Does that mean that you have to have essential astrological connections in order to become PM? No, not necessarily, but the data is there.

The reason for posting this blog is because the Malta is about to celebrate its second Saturn Return. This means that for the second time since Independence, the planet Saturn will return to its natal position of 28 degrees Aquarius. The first Saturn return occurred on the 26th January 1994 when Malta celebrated 30 years of independence. The second return will occur on the 5th March 2023.

Saturn takes approximately 30 years to orbit the Sun, and when one is around 30 years of age, it  signals a coming-of-age, a leaving behind of youth and entering adulthood. Similarly, Malta showed signs of looking forward to its future role. It was during this time that those in government at the time were looking to joining the European Union. This shows up in the first Saturn Return chart as Saturn occupies the 7th house, the area of the chart to do with relationships with others, business or otherwise.

In the next Saturn Return chart, that of the 5th March 2023, Saturn will occupy the 10th house, the area of the chart to do with career and public status. This represents the seat of government, in a sense. Saturn is all about responsibility, following the rules, restrictions - the executive branch of the country, We could see Malta's constitution being tweaked. Something in that area will be changed. The world out there is changing, so Malta's executive branch may have to change how it defines its role. Only time will tell (Saturn - Chronos - Time).

I hope you enjoyed reading this.

Blessings,

Cindy
