Taurus New Moon, Jupiter in Taurus, Hathor and Algol

This evening, just before sunset, the Sun and Moon conjoined at what is called a New Moon. This New Moon at 28 degrees of Taurus is ruled over by the planet Venus, as it rules Taurus. New Moons in Taurus are about setting intentions concerning our values, or what we value in life.

Hathor
Let's talk about Venus. At the moment of the New Moon, Venus will occupy 13 degrees of Cancer, a position held by the fixed star Sirius. Anyone who is into the cosmology of Ancient Egypt would instantly associated Taurus with the goddess Hathor. which is why she is represented as having dual horns in her headdress. As a giver of life, she carries the ankh in her left hand. She was the mother of Horus and the sun god Ra, associated with kingship, thus taking on the role of mother of their earthly representatives, the pharoahs.

There we go - the topic of kings comes up again. So do the stars look down favourably upon us lesser mortals? This is a Taurus New Moon with Cancer connections, so this is great for feeling (Moon/emotions) comforted by the sweet things life offers us.

Apart from the fact that the New Moon lies at 28 degrees of Taurus, the portion of the sky that is occupied by the Seven Sisters, the Pleaides, we have other planets telling us a story.

Firstly, Jupiter, that traditionally benevolent sky god, has just moved into Taurus, a sign associated with values and the riches Earth offers us. Jupiter is extremely happy in this earth sign, and can be auspicious for those who a planet in this sign in their birth chart as it confers the possibility to expand the gifts conferred by that planet. It is a benevolent planet and adds a touch of luck to wherever it is in your chart,

Mars, the celestial warrior, is at the tail end of Cancer and is poised to enter the sign of Leo, opposing Pluto in Aquarius. Mars/Pluto combinations can be a superpower, and to all intents and purposes can be a difficult energy to harness. Mars is in a fire sign which could result in taking the route of impulsivity. Pluto is geared to change or transform things, and together they can create havoc. However, benevolent Jupiter aspects the both of them midway, so if you feel supercharged, use this energy to your own benefit: Jupiter will enable you to harness that energy steadily (Jupiter is in Taurus) and use it productively (rather than destructively).

Back to Venus at 13 degrees of Cancer and kingship. Malta's national chart has an Ascendant  of 15 degrees of Cancer, which is where Venus is about to cross over. This New Moon also occurs very close to Jupiter in Malta's national chart, and this planet occupies the same portion of sky as Algol, considered to be the most malevolent fixed star in the firmament and speaks about losing your head (Algol - the story of Medusa). The story of theh Medusa was described in one of my previous posts. One has to ask, however, whether any kings lose their heads (metaphorically) over the next month. Transiting Mars will also soon cross over 3 degrees of Leo (where it is in the Malta National chart), which suggests a new cycle. Our own 'king', the PM, has his natal Mars at 13 degrees of Leo (most Maltese prime minsters who made it to office have a planet aspecting the position, coincidentally) and will soon experience his Mars Return - a return to the natal position. This tells us that he begin a new cycle of activity - more of the same or something different?

So, over the next two weeks, keep your head (or keep you cool) and remember to focus on expanding your enjoyment of all the nice things in life that sustain you. Hathor represented the enjoyment of physical things whilst also remember that we are connected to the heavens.

I hope you enjoyed reading this.

Blessings

Cindy
