A Libra Solar Eclipse today!
The New Moon on the 14th October occurs at 21 degrees of Libra and is also a solar eclipse. it will not be visible in Malta as the sun would have already dipped below the horizon. Nevertheless, visible or not, eclipses are always interesting in astrological terms. This particular eclipse will be visible, however, over a narrow path in North and South America, and is an annular eclipse - that is - the Moon will not totally block out the Sun; a ring of fire will be visible around the Moon.
Solar eclipses occur during a New Moon when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun, partially or completely blocking out the Sun's light. In astrology, solar eclipses are associated with new beginnings and powerful changes and are often seen as opportunities to set new intentions, start afresh and make major life changes. So, in effect, this is a very powerful time to start afresh and think of ways forward in a balanced, coordinated way; this is, after all, happening in the sign of Libra.
So what information is this particular New Moon offering us? Firstly, we need to take into consideration that Pluto, the planet (yes, I know - it was demoted but astrologers beg to differ) associated with change and transformation, was retrograde until very recently. Think of it as the handbrake being released. Also, Mars (which is sometimes considered to be represented as a warrior) has just entered the sign of Scorpio, a sign it rules. The real star of this show has to be Uranus, associated with innovation, sudden change, insight and higher awareness, which makes a 150 degree aspect to the New Moon. Whilst this aspect can give us the yearning for something new, it also could make one feel an intense inner tension leading to wanting to change something that was hitherto accommodated. Added to this is the presence of Mercury very, very close to the New Moon. Moon/Mercury is indicated of heightened intuition, whilst Sun/Mercury makes for being an effective communicator. It doesn't make for good listening, however.
What can we take from this? The Mars/Pluto input is likely to want us to act with force, which adds pressure to make immediate changes to a situation which you can no longer accommodate. Should this be the case, the use of imaginative thinking, coupled with intuition, is encouraged. So, if you've made any drastic decisions this week, know that you are in synch with the cosmos!
