The March Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon....and more

Tomorrow's Full Moon is a lunar eclipse, heralding the eclipse season for 2024. It occurs at 08:00 and will not be visible from our part of the world.

One thing to note is that due to precession, the zodiac and the constellations are out of synch by about 30 degrees, so whilst we say that the Moon is in the sign of Libra, the Moon will appear in the sky with Virgo as its backdrop. For the scope of this chart reading, I will be referring to the Moon as being in the sign of Libra.

So how does this eclipse affect us mortals? By looking the chart, we assess which planet is making an aspect to another. Because the chart changes according to time and place (for example, in London, this eclipse occurs at 07:00, and therefore the Ascendant and Midheaven changes).

The chart for this Full Moon is quite interesting. The most notable aspects are the Sun/Pluto sextile, the Venus/Jupiter sextile and the Moon/Pluto trine.

These are all harmonious aspects. Remember that this is a lunar eclipse, so it speaks to our emotional nature. Putting it all together, one could say that this is a highly emotional time, especially because of that Moon/Pluto intensity. Venus is about how we relate to others (or resources) and its aspect to Jupiter informs us that it's 'feel-good' tone could be a little over the top. The Sun/Pluto aspect does add to that intensity. End result? We could find ourselves experience 'big emotions' depending on which part of the chart this lunar eclipse hits. For example, if Libra is in your 7th house of relationships, then you may encounter changes (eclipses are about change) in how you relate to others.

So let's talk about what is all over the news at the moment: the Princess of Wales, Catherine, known as Kate. The truth is that both HRH William and the Princess of Wales were born under the influence of eclipses which is quite uncanny.   Note the position of Kate's natal Moon - at 19 degrees of Cancer. Now look at the position of the Moon in the chart of the United Kingdom.

Isn't it interesting that the UK Moon lies at the same degree as the Duchess of Cambridge?! This suggests that her marrying the current Prince of Wales is fated.

As an aside, King Charles (also born under the influence of an eclipse) is also unwell. Here, the chart of the lunar eclipse is set for the location of London, England. Although the planets remain in the same place as anywhere else in the world, setting it for London gives us the ability to interpret the signs for that location. The Sun in the chart represents the king. The king of England is in fact King Charles III. The 'king' here is in the 12th house, associated with hidden things. The King is, in fact, out of sight at the moment. Why? Because it is in the 12th house, the area of the chart which is about working behind the scenes.

The Moon in a mundane chart represents the people's attention - or where it is focused. The Moon is in the 6th house, associated with health. Putting it together, this lunar eclipse tells us that all eyes are on the king. Taking it a bit further, Catherine's health condition impacts the king's in some way.

I'm not experienced enough in astrological arts to try to predict what lies ahead for the Duchess of Cambridge and the King, nor would I wish to. I wish them both a successful outcome. We can, however, have a look at Catherine's Solar Return chart for this year (we have already looked at KCIII way back in November).

First of all, the Sun in her solar return chart (returning the chart to the exact position of the Sun at birth) is in the 4th house, an area designated to the Home. This suggests that the Duchess could be spending a lot of time at home following her birthday (January 9th - and for a good period of time). Also in the 4th house is Pluto, the planet associated with transformation. At 29 degrees, Pluto occupies the 'anaretic' degree, the degree of critical change. We know how that is playing out. The position of the Midheaven at 13 degrees of Cancer is where the dog star Sirius lies (traditionally). Sirius, with its magnitude of -1.43 (Brady, 1998), is the brightest star in the heavens apart from our star, the Sun. It was called 'The Scorcher' by the Egyptians of antiquity and was linked to the rising of the Nile.  Since we are looking at a Solar Return chart, we can surmise that this year will be a challenging year for the Duchess of Cambridge. The mythology of Sirius includes the myth of 'burning away flesh'. Taking that metaphorically, she is undergoing Plutonic treatment which 'burns away' unwanted cells. Sirius can also be about 'success which can burn'.

In a person's chart, Sirius is a marker of great deeds, deeds which bring fame. Princess Diana (whose ring the Duchess wears), was born with Sirius culminating with  her Sun, was known for her changing the way the world viewed the royal family. Her untimely death gave her a kind of immortality. In Catherine's chart, however, it speaks to us of a year in which dramatic change, the 'burning away' of something is something (!!) she must handle and although she may not be seen for a while (Sun in the 4th house), one hopes that she will recover well.

I hope you enjoyed reading this.

Blessings,

Cindy
