Uranus changes sign!

The cosmos is stirring up a storm - yes, a storm - as the planet associated with rebellion and innovation changes sign from Taurus to Gemini. Yesterday, 7th July, we bid goodbye to the presence of Uranus in grounded Taurus and witnessed its entry into the communicative Gemini, where it will reside for the next 7 years. Uranus orbits once around the Sun every 84 years, which roughly means that at around that age, you may witness a Uranus return to its natal position in your chart. But what does all this herald?

Uranus is what is called 'an outer planet', meaning that it is one of the planets which lies outside of Saturn's orbit. Until the late 1700s, there were only seven planets known to mankind. With the discovery of Uranus in 1781, astrologers began to attribute certain traits to the planet. It was a time of revolution, new ideas, freedom and individuality. Let's not forget the Declaration of Independence of 1776, and the French Revolution of 1789. Even our tiny island saw the departure of the Knights of St John in 1798. It begun to be seen as an expression of freedom from traditional structures and the emphasis of personal expression was noted.

Because it is an outer planet, it moves rather slowly and therefore its effect is seen as something generational and not personal. In a person's chart, its position is noted if it makes an aspect to a personal planet or an angle in the chart. What is interesting, though, is how it impacts the national chart of the USA. The talk of the town at the moment is how this particular country seems to be involved in some type of altercation (for want of a better word) when Uranus transits the sign of Gemini.

Between 1858 and 1866, Uranus transited the sign of Gemini, by the end of which, the 14th amendment was ratified. promising equal rights to all. The American Civil War occurred during Uranus' transit in Gemini.

Fast forward to 1942 and the US was once again drawn into a war, this time WWII. Where was Uranus at the time? Yes, in Gemini.

This 84-year cycle seems to be a sensitive one for the US, and each time it occurs we see this nation grappling with its identity - 'who are we and what defines us' - and each time something better came about as a result of that transit.

This time, we also have a Pluto return (Pluto returned to its natal position of the 1776 chart). Hence, it is starting a new cycle of transformation - Pluto transforms and takes no prisoners. This appears to be an unfolding story of how this country will be re-structuring of its 'essence'.

This is just a small observation in simplistic terms, observing how Uranus in Gemini seems to say something about the US. There are more complexities, in truth. Still, it makes interesting reading.

Blessings,

Cindy
