Full Moon in Aquarius and the Pressure Cooker in the Sky

So the Mercury retrograde had me delay uploading this post until after yesterday's Full Moon in Aquarius, so I'll do my best to get this to you before the sun disappears over the western horizon today.

Let's start with the obvious. An Aquarian Full Moon occurs when there is a full moon when the Sun is transiting the zodiac sign of Leo. Full Moons reflect the light of the Sun and throw light on the intentions sown at the beginning of this lunar cycle, the New Moon. This Full Moon is an aquarian one, meaning there is a certain amount of emotional detachment (Moon in Aquarius), highlighting a need to let go, and this month it is particularly strong owing to the kite formation as shown in the chart. Let's unpack this.

You might notice that there are quite a few planets positioned over 1 degree of something; Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto (in fact, all the outer planets are at one degree of a sign, signifying they are transiting a new 'landscape'). The formation they make is that of a 'kite', a configuration where three planets aspect each other at 120 degrees, and two of those points aspect yet another point at 60 degrees. Then you have a dynamic which is quite powerful, as the qualities of Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are all channelled through Mars. Mars in Libra is not a very happy bunny. It is opposite the sign it rules (Aries) and thus in detriment. Libra is the sign of the balance and this contrasts with Mars' desire to take the initiative. If we examine the nature of the sign of Libra, it is about relationship to the other, or harmony. So while Mars likes to take action, in this sign it can only take action to maintain harmony, even if it means doing nothing.

All this, while receiving 'energy' from Uranus (Mars/Uranus - harmonious sudden action), Neptune (Mars/Neptune - take the spiritual road), and Pluto (very powerful energy) which, as this Full Moon is about stepping away from emotional responses (Aquarius Full Moon), would perhaps be okay in and of itself. This is not the whole picture, however. Read on.

The sign of Aquarius is traditionally ruled over by Saturn, that taskmaster, which opposes Mars. Any astrologer worth their salt will tell you that a Mars/Saturn opposition (which is what is there) is not an easy aspect, as Saturn puts the brakes on anything; it tells you to take responsibility, it speaks of looking at the past. Mars has no way of going forward. It cannot move, Mars feels blocked.

Thus, one could say that there is this feeling of tensions rising. This dynamic is in place until close to the 19th August. Like a pressure cooker, there needs to be a valve somewhere to let off all this steam.  Perhaps there is.

Between the 9th and the 14th August, Venus and Jupiter - which are closing in on a very fortunate and positive aspect - conjoin. Now is the time to get out your crystals and charge them - if you subscribe to that kind of thing - as this is a highly positive time. But we need these two planets to aspect either other planets or the angles for them to weave their magic; and indeed they will, for four times during 24 hours they will aspect the angles. So, we may yet see something extraordinarily positive come out of this.

So, if you have been feeling crazy energetic followed by crazy lethargic, fear not. This is a very powerful full moon. Be aware that there are forces at work which we don't need to get caught up in. Be the observer and go about your daily activities with awareness. Move with balance. I'm always reminded of the character of Caine in the series 'Kung Fu', where David Carradine acts the part of the initiate who, in order to leave the monastery, must traverse a path covered with paper. His teacher tells him that when he learns to walk on it without tearing the paper, then his apprenticeship is over.

Mars in Libra needs to be like Caine and reflect on the words of Master Po - "Patience, Grasshopper."

I hope you enjoyed reading this.

Blessings to all.

Cindy
